About

I’m surprised you’re here reading this, but let’s get into the lore!

Our resident OysterPunk at a Barbie Modeling Show

I’m Suze, a multidisciplinary designer who dabbles in fashion, graphic design, a variety of fiber arts, and beadwork. I was born in Cuba, raised in Miami, and after living in a few other cities, I’m based in (the amazing) Chicago.

Clothing has been a life-long hyperfixation of mine. From obsessively collecting paper dolls as a kid, to competing in costume design competitions, and later attending the Fashion Institute of Technology for Fashion Design, it’s always something that captured my curiosity. After I left FIT, I became disillusioned with the idea of becoming a designer working in the fashion industry, and transitioned into graphic design and marketing.

But clearly you’re here, so what happened?

A late-developed allergy to polyester completely destroyed my relationship with clothing. Polyester was lurking everywhere—not just in fabrics, but even in thread used in commercial clothing. Faced with my new reality of endless hives, I had pick back up my old skills.

I needed a way to avoid polyester and also build a wardrobe that felt like it was really mine. Enter OysterPunk.

I’ll be diving into all the projects I’ve been dreaming up, my reintroduction to making clothes, and other creative ventures. I’m glad you’re here for the ride!
